BIRMINGHAM, AL — In a continued effort to fight childhood obesity and encourage healthy lifestyles at an early age, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama will serve as the Kids Mercedes –Benz Marathon title sponsor for the twelfth consecutive year. Blue Cross is proud that over 4,000 children will run in this year’s event.  

According to the Centers for Disease Control, regular physical activity can help children improve heart and lung fitness, build overall strength, control weight, reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression, and reduce the risk of developing health conditions in adulthood.

“With the effects of COVID impacting the overall physical and mental health of our children, it’s critical we provide our youth an outlet to get physical activity in a fun and engaging way,” said Sophie Martin, Director of Corporate Communications and Community Relations. “We are proud to be the title sponsor again of the Kids Mercedes-Benz Marathon and are currently working to continue this event in the future.”

The Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama Kids Mercedes Marathon is being held at Railroad Park in downtown Birmingham on Saturday, February 11 at 11 a.m.
