BIRMINGHAM, AL – Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama is proud to partner with The Birmingham Promise to help ensure our youth are prepared for college and equipped for a successful career.

Blue Cross recently hosted intern Rayne Miller, a senior at Wenonah High School and member of The Birmingham Promise, who interned in Human Resources January through April of this year. The Birmingham Promise connects Birmingham City School seniors with local employers to provide networking and professional work experience before graduation.

During her final semester of high school, Rayne worked four days per week at the Company’s headquarters in Hoover, contributing ideas for employee news articles and Human Resources initiatives. After she graduates in May, Rayne will attend Alabama A&M University as a music education major.

“Rayne [brought] a fresh perspective to our communication campaigns,” says Denise McFadden, a Human Resources Department Manager. “By hiring these interns, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama is not only investing in the future workforce but also showing a commitment to the community. This can foster a sense of belonging and support for the interns, helping them envision a brighter future for themselves.”

Since 2020, Blue Cross has hosted six Birmingham Promise interns and donated a total of $2 million to the organization, reaffirming our commitment to giving back to the communities we serve.
