Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama Launches Baby Yourself Spanish App, Enhancing Maternity Care Access for Hispanic Mothers
Birmingham, AL – Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama has taken a critical step toward advancing maternal healthcare accessibility with the launch of a Spanish-language version of our Baby Yourself app. This expansion aims to bridge the gap in maternity care for Alabama’s growing Hispanic population, ensuring that language is no longer a barrier to quality prenatal and postpartum support.
Maternity data shows Spanish-speaking mothers are disproportionately affected by late or insufficient prenatal care. The Baby Yourself Spanish app empowers expectant mothers by providing helpful resources, trimester updates, and direct communication with nurses, all in their preferred language. With automatic Spanish-to-English translations, the program also ensures seamless communication between mothers and healthcare providers.
Alabama’s Hispanic population has surpassed 250,000, yet many rural areas remain maternity care deserts, lacking access to OBGYN providers and birthing hospitals. By offering the Baby Yourself in Spanish, Blue Cross is making maternity care more inclusive, ensuring expectant mothers—regardless of language—can access the education and support they need for a healthy pregnancy.
With maternal healthcare evolving to meet the needs of diverse populations, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama remains committed to our mission of providing our members access to quality, affordable healthcare. For more information go to AlabamaBlue.com.
